Md Towsif-ur-Rahman
JnU Correspondent: JnU students formed a human chain in front of the Shaheed Minar on the campus of Jagannath University on September 30, 2021 (Thursday) at 10 am demanding protection of the only central playground (Dhupkhola) of Jagannath University. They then marched from the Shaheed Minar to the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Science and the entire campus. They also blocked the road in front of the main gate of JnU for some time.

The students complained that due to the existence of a campus in old Dhaka, it seems that the land pirates are occupying all the establishments one by one. We, ordinary students seems helpless today. But we are all united in demanding the protection of the field. Our movement will not be limited, it will be more in the future.

Sumaiya Soma, Vice-president of Samajtantra Chhatra Font, said, “All our halls have been occupied by occupiers like Haji Selim.” In this way they are also occupying our playground. Everything seems to be taken over which is present in history of JnU . If the DNCC touches this field, we will demolish it together with the students. If the administration does not accept this demand, then it  will witness another movement like the Jagannath University Hall movement. We will also give programs with ordinary students soon.

Kamal Hossain, a 11th batch student of the Department of Islamic Studies, said, “If we don’t get our field, we will make a strong movement.” We will do what we have to do next time. A field is equal to a hospital. If the administration plays a silent role, we students are ready to give a toothless answer.”

Mohammad Rakib, a 13th batch student of the Botany Department, said “Many students have now become national level players by playing in this open field. This field is the lifeblood of the alumni. We will protect our resources by overcoming all the necessary barriers.”

Asaduzzaman, the convener of the field movement, said, “We will resist any kind of insidious mahal if we join this movement. The peaceful protest rally was stopped in the intervention of the police but it will not be closed in the future. We will continue our movement against these occupiers. We will go to the field next Sunday by human chain from the campus InshaAllah.”

JnU Proctor Mostafa Kamal said, “We always agree with the demands of the students. We have also requested the administration to bring the field back. They haven’t told us anything yet.”
