“Death procession in JnU; death-3, injured-1 in the interval of week”

Md Towsif-ur-Rahman,JnU Correspondent: Death procession is going on at Jagannath University, 3 deaths and 1 injured within a week. One student was killed and another injured in a road accident. Suicide of a newly admitted student and sudden death of senior bus driver Nurul Islam.

Incident-1:

A student named Sabrina Akhter of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Jagannath University for the 2017-18 academic year was killed in a road accident on December 16 while returning to Dhaka for the semester final exams. Sonaimuri police sub-inspector Ibrahim Khalil said she was hit by a brick-laden truck at around 12:30 pm and died on the spot.

Incident-2:

Police have recovered the body of a student named Mehebullah Tousif (21) from a house of Hatirjheel metropolitan project in the capital. The body was recovered from the house of Mahanagar Project at around 1 am on Tuesday (December 21). Later he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Morgue for autopsy.

Hatirjheel police SI Md Nazrul Islam said, “I got the news last night and recovered Tousif’s body from the fifth floor of the house of Mahanagar Project.” His body was found hanging from a lyon rope with a fan hook in the drawing room of the house.

Citing the victim’s family, he said Tousif had committed suicide by hanging himself out of frustration. The autopsy report will actually reveal the exact cause of death.

Incident 3:

Md. Nurul Islam, a senior driver of Jagannath University Transport Pool, was rushed to the hospital on December 20 when he felt chest pain while coming to the campus from Mirpur. He died at the National Heart Institute at 7 o’clock. He was 48 years old at the time of his death. Funeral of the deceased was held at 12 noon at the Jagannath University Central Jame Mosque.

According to the transport office of the university, the late Nurul Islam is a senior bus driver of the transport pool of Jagannath University. He used to run the bus (Dhaka Metro-J14-09106). His village home is in Madaripur. He has one daughter and two sons in his family.He was the only earning member of the family.

Incident-4:

A student of Jagannath University (JnU) was injured when a Dishari Paribahan bus hit her at Gulistan intersection in the capital. The injured student’s name is Shahida Sultana. She is a student of the zoology department of the university in the 2017-18 academic year.

The incident took place at around 10 am on Wednesday (December 22) at Gulistan intersection in the capital. While waiting for a rickshaw at Gulistan junction to reach the campus, a bus of Dishari Paribahan (Dhaka Metro-B11-9350) pushed Shahida from behind. At that time Shahida fell due to the push of the bus. Although she survived, she was injured.

Her classmates then brought her to the university’s medical center. After initial treatment there, she was sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College (Midfort Hospital) for treatment.
