A webinar on improving the educational and mental health of university students in Corona has been held at Jagannath University.

The webinar was organized by the Department of Social Work at 10.30 am on Wednesday (April 21). Acting Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dr. Kamaluddin Ahmed was present as the chief guest.

Speaking as the chief guest, he said that students have been deprived of education due to the closure of educational institutions for a long time due to the impact of coronavirus around the world. That is why the students are facing various problems including fear of session jam. In this situation, the teachers have to stand by the students so that the students do not get frustrated. Students need to work on improving mental health.

Tahmina Islam, Professor, Department of Social Work, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, was the first speaker at the event. In this regard she said, “We don’t have to sit because of Corona. We have to face some problems all the time in our life. Corona is just such an obstacle for us. At this time, we have to work for the betterment of ourselves so that we can stay ahead of others in any situation. Which helps us to build our career in the future.”

Mr. Efrat Zaman, Assistant Director and Psychologist, Student Welfare and Counseling Center, Jahangirnagar University, was the second speaker on the occasion. In case of developing mental health he said, “Our students are living in this difficult time of epidemic coronavirus. As a result, they are getting involved in various unnecessary activities. As a result, random thoughts are filling their heads. To pass the time students are becoming addicted to online and getting stuck in online games. Little by little, they are behaving abnormally. This is due to the deterioration of the mental health of the students. We all need to be more aware to get out of it.”

The program was presided over by Mr. Bushra Zaman, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, University and chaired by Prof. Dr. Rajina Sultana, Chairman of the Department.

Apart from Dr. Arun Kumar Goswami, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University, teachers and students of different departments of the University were present at the webinar as special guests.
